Nowadays, it is not something unusual for a business to be a prey of various attackers, especially if this business makes a lot of cash. As for the online businesses, they may experience cyber attacks. People that like to attack internet companies see defects in network that are not easily noticed by the companies’ owners.

VoIP business can be attacked in cyber world by hackers as well. Some hackers would try to get your valuable financial data, while others would like to be able to control your IP systems.
There are ways to avoid being hacked so do not fret.

If you are concerned about your VoIP business, here are some tips on how to prevent it from being cyber attacked. Or, if it happens, to at least slow the hacking attack down.

Rule #1: Avoid Default Passwords and PIN

When you use default pins and passwords, they are not hard to guess and some hackers first try out these. That's why it is highly recommended to change the default passwords as soon as you get a chance.
Passwords and pins should not be easy to guess, so you should avoid putting, for instance, 123456 as your password or your date of birth. Just like your passwords should be changed once in a while, your pins need reset from time to time as well.

Rule #2: Strong Firewall Means Strong Protection

In order to protect your VoIP business, you should build a firewall in your network in case your routers do not have one.
Firewall is something that hackers first run into when they try to break into a network, and having a strong firewall can save one VoIP business a lot of trouble and worries. Firewalls can also be customized so they permit incoming calls, and not from any service provider, but only from the chosen ones.

Rule #3: Always Be on a Lookout for Threats

Your network may have a strong firewall and it may also have a flawless system, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't pay attention for defects that could show up once in a while.
The best way to fight possible hacking is to prevent it. You should oversee the system constantly as that will help you notice even the slightest change in the system’s activity. Updating VoIP software and the system, as well as updating antivirus database regularly is crucial as that should stop potential cyber threats.

Rule #4: Secure Your Connections

Never forget to encrypt your data. In order to secure information related to your business, you may create VPN (Virtual Private Network) because all your voice conversations will be accessible to authorized party only – to you and your coworkers.
After all, you never know who may want to steal your sensitive data and hack your VoIP business.

Internet is not always a secure place. The more profitable is your business, the higher are chances of being noticed by a hacker.

If you are VoIP service provider, you have to make sure that both you and your team have done everything possible to deliver voice in a safe way. Otherwise, your VoIP business could suffer.
